From Whitsunday Cup to Wearing the Green and Gold: Shannon’s Journey to the Australian Police Rugby League Team
From the tropical fields of Airlie Beach to the international stage — homegrown athlete Shannon is set to pull on the Australian jersey this weekend when the Australian Police Rugby League Team takes on New Zealand Police in Rotorua.
Shannon’s story is one that truly celebrates local talent, hard work, and heart.
Born and raised in Airlie Beach, Shannon’s sporting journey began right here in the Whitsundays. She played Touch Football in Airlie from a young age, represented Proserpine State High School in rugby union, and went on to play for the Whitsunday Raiders and BMW 7s. Her passion for the game — across codes — has always shone through.
In April 2025, Shannon represented the City Cyclones at the QPS State Rugby League Championships, playing in the Centre position. The team went undefeated against the Country Thunder, claiming the State Championship title in a clean sweep.
Her outstanding form earned her selection to represent Queensland Police at the National Police Rugby League Championships in July, held at Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast. Facing off against NSW Police and the Affiliated States, Shannon once again impressed — securing her spot at Centre in the Australian Police Rugby League Team.
Now, she’s heading across the Tasman to Rotorua International Stadium to take on NZ Police on Saturday 25 October 2025, with kick-off at 3:00 pm AEST. The match will be live-streamed, and we’ll share the link once available — so you can tune in and cheer her on from home!
